How TaxPrepBench works
Sourcing
- Every fact links to a source: vendor pricing pages, press releases, third-party review sites, or public practitioner threads.
- Practitioner-reported prices and experiences are labeled as user reports. They are anecdotes, not benchmarks.
- If we can't source a field, we leave it out rather than guess.
- Every listing carries a last-verified date.
Rankings
Best-of lists weigh pricing transparency, trial availability, fit for 1–20 person firms, integrations with common tax software, security disclosures, and practitioner reports. Sponsored placements are always labeled and never change rankings.
Bench testing (coming)
We are building a fictional six-return test set (W-2, Schedule C, brokerage with RSUs, K-1, rental) with seeded errors. We plan to run every tool we can legitimately access and publish raw results. No bench results are published yet, and we will never publish results we didn't actually measure.
